The Ground Wants More

Upamanyu Sensharma

Morva Salt Pans.

Monsoon.

Clay soil, basalt rock platforms, shrubs, vegetation, water, tar. 6 completely different surfaces; different experiences come together- one surface- The Ground.

One surface holds all experiences, stitches the site together. That one surface becomes the house. A space to gather, a space to sleep, a space to cook, a space to clean, a space to store- walls, floor, roof, shelves- one surface. The ground rises to become the ramp, translating itself into a wall. The wall folds to guide one into the next space, twists to become the floor, skews to become the roof. The ground grows, it falls, it comes to life and with it, it brings life. The ground wants more.
